Medical Billing 101:
This course is an introduction to the job duties of a medical biller. Students will learn to decipher common forms and reports used in the medical office. Health insurance, identification cards, explanation of benefits, accounts receivable, denials, appeals, and collections are all covered in this course. Emphasis is placed on learning to accurately complete the CMS-1500 form, the source document used for physician and out-patient billing; an additional 25 case studies for medical billing scenarios are included to enhance the student's mastery of the subject.
Introduction to CPT and ICD-9 Coding:
This basic course introduces the student to CPT, HCPCS level II, and ICD-9 codes, as they pertain to medical billing. Using the 'Encoder Pro' workbook and disk, students will practice coding exercises using codes found in the CPT and ICD-9 coding manuals. Appropriate modifier usage is also explored.
Computers in the Medical Office:
Computers play a vital role in the medical office environment. In this course, students are introduced to a basic ‘WINDOWS’ medical practice management software program much like the programs they will encounter on the job. Students will perform real-life medical office functions such as entering patient demographics, scheduling appointments, electronically submitting claims, and posting insurance and patient payments. Office reports including the patient and insurance aging are addressed to reinforce the concept of maintaining the office’s accounts receivable.
